Case Overview

Franklin, Tennessee, restricts both yard signs and flags in its zoning ordinance. It unconstitutionally distinguishes between campaign signs and most temporary signs, which are restricted to two per lot and may not be displayed for more than three months out of every 12-month period. Flags are also restricted to three per lot. On April 22, ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ wrote to city officials outlining the constitutional problems with their ordinance.
